By: E&P Staff In the United Kingdom, News International's Times Online has implemented a new Web content management system developed by Escenic, and intends to use the system for The Sun's Web site and all other NI online publications.
Escenic's Java-based content-management system has been implemented at news organizations in Europe and the United States, including German media conglomerate Axel Springer, Britain's The Independent, and, through an OEM with DTI, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times.
The Norwegian company's system, developed in cooperation with European media companies Aftenposten, De Telegraaf and TV2, allows for news creation, syndication and online publishing, and the integration of community-oriented services. The solution offers reader-contributed features and various advertising tools, as well as the ability to integrate multimedia and dynamic flash technologies.
Escenic announced at Nexpo that it will partner with text-proofing system provider Tansa (also headquartered in Norway) to further improve the speed, quality and capacity of its Web content-management system.
Escenic also has signed a partner agreement with MySQL to broaden its supported databases. With the partnership, Escenic now supports MySQL's technology, positioning Escenic to also offer an open-source production stack for Database, Ldap Server and Application Server, according to a company statement.
