Local Media Association has hired Michael Martoccia as training and development manager. He spent the last nine years at McClatchy (The Charlotte Observer) in charge of digital sales and training.

Previous to that he was at Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. as a regional advertising and marketing director.

Martoccia brings new skill sets to the table and complements the work already started by training and development director Amie Stein.

"I'm really looking forward to joining LMA and leveraging my industry experience. Nancy Lane and her team are rapidly equipping media companies with the latest digital sales resources and business development training, and that's paying dividends for everyone. With new, cutting-edge programs on the horizon, this is an ideal time to be a part of the LMA team," said Martoccia.

LMA President Nancy Lane added, "Mike is a super addition to the team. His experience in the industry allows him to understand the particular training needs of local media companies and their SMB clients."

Lane also said, "Last year we started a new business unit dedicated to affordable but high-quality training for the local media industry. We hired Amie Stein, a former Scripps executive and we haven't been able to keep up with demand ever since."

More than 300 executives have been trained to take the Google AdWords certification test and more than 400 others have participated in a wide variety of training programs.

During LMA's strategic planning meeting with its board of directors in January, a decision was made to grow the training division with a second hire this year and a third hire next year.
