Local Search Technology Added to McClatchy's triangle.com

By: E&P Staff The News & Observer Publishing Co., the McClatchy division that publishes The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., has enhanced its regional portal site, triangle.com, by launching a local search technology that gives users reliable and comprehensive local information and positions advertisers to capture targeted local audiences.

The new search technology launched last week and is powered by Planet Discover. In addition to keyword searches of local Web sites in North Carolina's Research Triangle area, users can also search travel-specific Web sites in six regions of North and South Carolina.

?Triangle.com is a go-and-do search Web site in a technologically savvy community," Gary Smith, the publishing company's vice president of interactive media, said in a statement. "This new local search function enhances our offerings for users,?

"Triangle.com has created a search experience where users can quickly and easily find the local information they need," Terry Millard, president and co-founder of Planet Discover, said in a statement.

Newsobserver.com, the company?s news site, and triangle.com, a gateway to entertainment and shopping, together draw more than 900,000 unique visitors a month.

In addition to the News & Observer, the company also publishes four community newspapers in the region the Raleigh-Durham area.
