By: Irving Rosenthal, who taught journalism at the City College of New York for 40 years and became a mentor to some of the country's top reporters, has died. He was 95.
Rosenthal died Sunday at his Long Island home of natural causes, said his son Robert, executive director of the Center for Investigative Reporting in Berkeley, Calif.
Rosenthal began teaching journalism at City College in 1936 and retired in 1976 as professor emeritus of English and chairman of communications and mass media.

Shepard, the former editor of Business Week and dean of the Graduate School of Journalism of the City University of New York; Daniel Schorr, of NPR and formerly CBS; and Marvin Kalb, of CBS and NBC News.
Rosenthal also served as director of public relations for the college for many years and co-wrote two books on writing. He also wrote articles for The Saturday Review, the Times, The New York Herald Tribune, Public Opinion Quarterly and other publications.
