'Los Angeles Times' Names New Editorial Page Editor

By: E&P Staff Nicholas Goldberg has been named editorial page editor at the Los Angeles Times. He assumes his new duties on Sept. 28.

Previously, Goldberg was deputy editor of the editorial pages. His new responsibilities include oversight of the editorial board, as well as Op-Ed, Sunday Opinion and letters content. He succeeds Jim Newton, who has been named editor-at-large, a new masthead position.

"The Times editorials and Op-Eds deliver a bracing range of views and lead a crucial dialogue about all aspects of life in California," Times Publisher Eddy Hartenstein said in a statement. "Nick Goldberg brings experience and leadership to his new position and will ensure the continued excellence and intellectual depth of our editorial pages."

Goldberg joined the Times in 2003 as Op-Ed editor. Before that he worked for Newsday, for which he covered the New York statehouse and Bill Clinton?s 1992 presidential campaign, among other assignments. He was Newsday?s Middle East correspondent from 1995 to 1998.
