Louisiana Newspaperman Edmund G. Brown Jr. Dies at 87

By: E&P Staff Louisiana newspaper executive Edmund Graves Brown Jr. died May 11 at age 87.

Brown began his career at The Times-Picayune, New Orleans, after studying at Tulane University following his return from World War II as an officer in the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, where he saw service in the Battle of the Bulge and witnessed the war's end in Germany.

In 1952 he joined The News-Star, Monroe, La., then owned by members of his mother's family. He was assistant general manager when he retired, in 1977, the year the Gannett Co. acquired the then-afternoon paper and its now-defunct sister title, the Monroe Morning World.
