By: The Courier-Journal has named Jean Porter as managing editor to succeed Ben Post, who retired.
Executive Editor Bennie Ivory described Porter as "committed to the kind of work The Courier-Journal has always done."
A Louisville native, Porter joined the state's largest newspaper in 1983 as a copy editor and has held several editing positions. She had been First Amendment editor since 2006, overseeing several editing desks.
When the paper announced the move last week, Porter said her job will be "to help preserve our great tradition of First Amendment, watchdog journalism, publishing the pieces that shine a light in dark corners, give voice to the less powerful, to inform and when possible, to entertain."
The 49-year-old Porter is a graduate of the University of Louisville.
