By: E&P Staff The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky, -- home of the Kentucky Derby -- has launched
C-J Derby DataTrack, an online clearinghouse for information on horses likely to run in the famous race.
The database's description states it provides free information "to let everyone from hard-core fans to novices identify which horses have accomplished the criteria necessary to predict success in the race." Indexing data in more than 50 categories that "historically come into play ... producing a Derby winner," DataTrack is designed to help those participating in the races or placing bets.
Compiled by racing researcher Leslie Huddleston and Courier-Journal racing writer Jennie Rees, DataTrack includes all 426 early Triple Crown nominees still on the Derby trail plus more than 100 other horses that could be nominated later. Users can explore contenders from a specific trainer or sire, compare two horses and look through a glossary of racing terms.
