Just three weeks after failing to distribute much of its Sunday circulation (E&P May 3) with special coverage devoted to the Kentucky Derby -- annually among the paper's biggest biggest-circulation days -- The Courier-Journal in Louisville sustained another big press problem, last Friday.
Its 6-year-old KBA Colora presses were down for three hours, delaying deliveries to almost 50,000 Jefferson County subscribers, according to Publisher Arnold Garson in a report the same day on courier-journal.com.
Friday's problem also was electrical, though the cause remains undetermined. it appeared unrelated to the May 2 press failure, which was determined to have been resulted a power surge thought to have been caused by lightning, according to Garson.
