By: (AP) Richard Luna, managing editor of the
Statesman Journal of Salem, Ore., has been appointed managing editor of
The Indianapolis Star.
Luna starts his new job at the end of July as the No. 2 person running the
Star's news staff of 280 people.
The appointment of Luna, 43, was announced Tuesday. The position had been vacant since Calvin Stovall left a year ago.
The Star and the
Statesman Journal are owned by Gannett Co.
Luna, a former sports reporter, began writing for the
El Paso Times while studying journalism and broadcasting at the University of Texas at El Paso. He later worked for United Press International, covering the Pan Am Games and NCAA Final Four college basketball games in Indianapolis.
He also was a reporter and an editor at the
Houston Post, assistant features editor and assistant city editor at the
Detroit Free Press and sports editor of
The News Journal in Wilmington, Del.
