By: E&P Staff Magie Enterprises, a family-owned publishing company, has sold its newspaper holdings to Stephens Media Group. Terms of the deal, brokered by Cribb & Associates, were not disclosed.

Stephens Media, based in Las Vegas, publishes 16 newspapers in Arkansas, in addition to the new acquisitions.

The purchase includes the weeklies Cabot Star-Herald, the Carlisle Independent, the Lonoke Democrat, the Sherwood Voice, and the Jackson Patriot.

"We've been privileged as a family to have served our communities for 50 years," Betty Magie said in a statement. "It wouldn't have been possible to have a successful business without a dedicated and talented newspaper staff, loyal readers and committed advertisers."

Dennis a. Byrd, publisher of The Times of North Little Rock (Ark.), the Maumelle Monitor, and chief of the Arkansas News Bureau, was named publisher of the newly acquired papers.
