By: Dexter Hill The National Press Club, along with New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute and the Foreign Policy Association, will hold a forum on Thursday called ?The First Amendment, Freedom of the Press & the Future of Journalism.? Tomorrow?s event will the the latest installment of the Club?s nationwide project during its centennial year to look at where the news business is going and what news consumers should be demanding.
Panelists will include Jill Abramson, New York Times managing editor; Associated Press President Tom Curley, former CBS News anchor, Dan Rather, and NYU faculty member and media critic Jay Rosen. The forum will be moderated by National Press Club Centennial Project director and veteran national correspondent Gil Klein.
"For a century, the National Press Club has attracted global newsmakers in Washington, D.C.," said Club president Sylvia Smith. "Now, we are reaching out across the country to get people talking about these important issues, and we are pleased to have such a distinguished panel for our New York City forum."
Hosting the event for New York University is First Amendment expert Stephen D. Solomon, associate director of the NYU Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. The event will begin with a preview of the Club's centennial documentary, "A Century of Headlines," which follows the history of American journalism through the lens of one of its leading institutions.
?The First Amendment, Freedom of the Press and the Future of Journalism? forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the sixth floor of the Carter Institute at NYU, 20 Cooper Square. It is free and open to the public.
