Man Enters Plea in Death of Wife at Newspaper Office

Posted
By: An Evart man accused of killing his estranged wife outside a Mt. Pleasant newspaper?s offices has avoided trial by pleading no contest to a lesser charge.

The Saginaw News reports Thomas Babb will serve 37 to 56 years in prison as part of his plea agreement on a second-degree murder charge. An Isabella County judge will sentence Babb on Oct. 29.

A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.

In exchange for the plea, the Morning Sun reports prosecutors dropped felony murder and firearm charges.

Mary Babb worked as a sales representative at the Morning Sun when she was gunned down in the newspaper?s parking lot Jan. 9.
