By: Jim Rosenberg In 18 months, the first units of an 82-couple, 14-web pair of MAN Roland Regioman presses will arrive at a new production facility to be built for the E.W. Scripps Co.'s Treasure Coast Publishing. The $45-million plant (planned for a site yet to be finalized) will consolidate printing, packaging, and distribution of the group's three Florida dailies in Vero Beach, Stuart, and Fort Pierce, as well as its weeklies, total-market-coverage products, and niche publications.
The one-around doublewide presses will be equipped with double and single 2:3:3 jaw folders. The straight-only presses will allow expansion of current zoned editioning and color capacity -- a necessity for advertising in a largely affluent market stretching from Sebastian in Indian River County south to Palm Beach County.
The group's three print sites now run singlewide machines from three manufacturers, including
The Stuart News' 18-year-old MAN Uniman. The new, 70,000-copy-per-hour presses will have MAN's Pecom controls that include an ink presetting option driven by digital prepress data.
