By: A central Kentucky man accused of killing his wife and holding a newspaper editor at gunpoint has been indicted on a murder charge.

John W. Todd Jr., 63, pleaded not guilty to fatally shooting his wife March 6 in the couple's Lexington home.

The next morning Todd was waiting in the office of the Richmond Register's editor, Jim Todd, his brother, according to the newspaper's account of the incident. The newspaper said the two men stayed in Todd's office for about 90 minutes behind closed doors before walking to a van behind the newspaper building. Jim Todd said his brother pointed a gun at him while they were in the office.

John Todd later turned himself in to police.

A Fayette County grand jury on Thursday indicted John Todd in the murder of his wife, Charlene Lynn Todd, 48, whose body was found in the basement of their home.

"It is too early for a trial date to be set, said Ray Larson, Fayette County Commonwealth's attorney.

Todd is in the Fayette County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.

He has not yet been charged in the incident at the newspaper.
