By: E&P Staff Publishing software developer Managing Editor Inc., Jenkintown, Pa., is now distributing version 2.5 of the Wave2 self-service publishing platform. The version includes the new i-Publish suite of products EasyBuild, AdPortal and Studio System, with support for Adobe Creative Suite 3 and a new user interface.
Web-based Wave2, which uses Adobe Indesign as its composition engine, allows nontechnical users to produce targeted ads, signage and marketing materials. The three components of the i-Publish suite, available separately or as a package, are built with the same infrastructure and designed to complement each other, according to MEI.
Wave2's first i-Publish component, the Web-to-print application EasyBuild (formerly known as Apollo), has a new look and includes new features, such as support for InDesign Server Creative Suite 3 and a new layout mode suitable for generating documents that promote multiple products on one page, such as full-page real-estate or automotive display ads.
The AdPortal Web application lets publishers deploy an advertiser portal in conjunction with online ad building, and includes features for ordering, billing, connecting to commercial credit-card authorization systems and creating ad packages for different regions and publication combinations.
Studio System, the third i-Publish component, gives Wave2 a new front end designed for in-house sales representatives. With a highly graphical interface built with Adobe Flex technology, Studio facilitates editing of ad text and graphics.
MEI is an authorized worldwide distributor of the software, developed by Wave2 Media Solutions Ltd., Buckinghamshire, England. Wave2 users include the Boston Globe, Belgium's Passe Partout, and Northcliffe Newspapers in the United Kingdom.
