manroland APL Site Herold Druck Integrates ppi Media's printnet OM

After introducing Automatic Plate Loading (APL), Austria's Herold Druck und Verlag AG — which specializes in producing newspapers and semi-commercial work, from prepress through distribution — has contracted with manroland subsidiary ppi Media to install its output management system printnet OM to further automate prepress and printing.

Supporting all requirements of APL, printnet OM at Herold Druck ensures a seamless workflow, from plate logistics through imaging of dummy plates to color coherence and automatic generation of double-truck forms. PECOM press controls software supplies printnet OM with planning data, which the system uses to calculate a production plan for the respective printing forms. This comprises both the printing plan and a definition of common pages and forms. On the basis of this plan, imaging is performed according to the first-needed, first-out principle, which ensures that only the plates required are actually produced.
