Investigators ruled the death of Lawrence Tisdale accidental, Executive Assistant Prosecutor Charlotte L. Smith said.

Tisdale, 39, of Newark, entered the lobby of The Star-Ledger of Newark on the afternoon of April 16 and tried to grab a security guard's gun. During the struggle, Tisdale ran into the lobby doors, breaking the glass, and was handcuffed by the guards.

Police arrived with emergency medical technicians and took Tisdale to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead within the hour.

Newspaper reporters who saw Tisdale described him as "shoeless, frantic and wild-eyed."
