By: E&P Staff Manugraph DGM Inc., a subsidiary of Manugraph India Ltd. in Elizabethville, Pa., announced today that it will take over sales responsibility for the Americolor doublewide four-over-four tower. It also has sold press equipment to Lee Enterprises' Quad-City Times in Davenport, Iowa, and to Ogden Newspapers.
MDGM currently manufactures the Americolor as a slip-in full-color addition for any existing doublewide press.
Since development of the press in 2002, MDGM has used George R. Hall Contracting and Inland Newspaper Machinery Corp. as Americolor sales agents.
"In the beginning, we believed companies like Hall and Inland were better suited to market the Americolor press to double-width users, which in turn enabled MDGM to focus on our core single-width market," MDGM Sales Vice President Dave Moreland said in a statement. "MDGM and parent company Manugraph now have the necessary resources to take back the Americolor product line."
MDGM named Ron Ehrhardt, its international sales vice president, to oversee Americolor sales Ehrhardt started Americolor promotion when he was with George R. Hall Contracting.
Americolor towers are used by Charleston (W.Va.) Newspapers on a Goss Metro press, The Herald-mail Newspaper Co., Hagerstown, Md., on a Goss Cosmo press, and The Herald-Times, Bloomington, Ind., on a KBA Express 50 press.
This year, MDGM also brought to market its DGM 1270 folder, a 70,000-cph 2:3:4 jaw folder that can be used with Americolor.
Manugraph DGM makes a full range of one-around and two-around singlewide offset presses, including the DGM Advantage II, which also serves as a slip-in replacement for the DGM 850 or Urbanite, as well the Americolor. It also makes a full line of folders: DGM 1035, DGM 1240, DGM 1050, DGM 1255, and DGM 1270 jaw folder.
The Quad-City Times bought two DGM 430 units with 22-inch cutoffs that will be added to an existing two-high press to create a four high tower. Now in operation, the MDGM units were installed for the paper's Trico Press commercial division.
Ogden Newspapers purchased 12 DGM 430 units configured as three four-high towers with 22.75-inch cutoffs for The House of Print, Madelia, Minn.
The towers extend an existing press line in a two-phase installation. Phase I is completed and in full production. Phase II of delivery and installation is set for this month and is expected to be complete by November. Some press reconfiguration also will take place.
