Manugraph Orders QuadTech Systems for India

Posted
By: E&P Staff Indian press maker Manugraph ordered 27 Register Guidance Systems with MultiCam from QuadTech, the Sussex, Wis., subsidiary of Quad Graphics.

For installation on Manugraph presses at printing plants across India, the equipment will be used to ensure print quality and fold accuracy at several large newspapers, including the Hindi-language Dainik Jagran. The sales were confirmed after Manugraph ordered 25 QuadTech Autotron Newspaper 2800 Register Guidance Systems in recent months for the Times of India, Hindustan Times, and Dainik Bhaskar.

To ensure optimum control over register and ribbons, even during web splices, the system's fast frame rate and high resolution allow viewing the entire repeat length of a web, rather than just the area where register marks are printed.

Manugraph Managing Director Pradeep Shah said in a statement that India's newspaper industry is using color on a regular basis, with "print quality under the microscope from local and international advertisers." Also pointing to the trend to reduce waste, he cited "a 3% saving in paper on our presses since introducing the QuadTech equipment."

With new and expanding plants across India, publishers are adding pages, with some papers carrying color on all pages, according to Hemant Desai, QuadTech sales manager in India. "This was unthinkable six years ago, when there was no color in Indian newspapers at all."
