By: (AP) The Marin Independent Journal, a newspaper based north of San Francisco, began offering electronic editions to readers on Monday. The subscription Web-based service is being offered to Windows users through NewsStand of Austin, Texas.

"Subscribers will be able to download the entire newspaper for either a laptop or desktop pretty much anywhere on earth," Publisher Roger Grossman said.

NewsStand provides similar services to 14 other newspapers and five magazines, including The New York Times and The Boston Globe.

Subscription options include: $14.99 for seven days of papers a week for a month, $32 for seven days a week for 10 weeks, or 50 cents for the current day's morning edition. The single-issue price goes up to $1.25 on Sundays.

Grossman said the newspaper's current free Web site will not be affected as a result of the service.
