Marlette's 'Kudzu' Comic to End Next Month

By: E&P Staff "Kudzu" by Doug Marlette -- who died in a July 10 car accident -- will end next month, reports DailyCartoonist.com.

The comic's last daily episode is Aug. 4 and its last Sunday strip is Aug. 26. Most comic cartoonists work several weeks in advance.

A person writing to DailyCartoonist.com said he's "very happy" that Tribune Media Services "didn?t try to put a new artist behind this feature" -- as TMS and other syndicates periodically do when a creator dies. But some comics are considered too idiosyncratic to be continued by another cartoonist.

TMS also distributed the editorial cartoons by Marlette, a Pulitzer Prize winner who was working for the Tulsa (Okla.) World at the time of his death.
