Maryland Paper Drops Monday Edition

By: The Frederick News-Post in Maryland says it will stop publishing a Monday edition so it can save jobs in the midst of a "dire" economy.

Editor and Publisher Myron Randall said in a statement Friday on the paper's Web site that the last Monday edition in the foreseeable future will be March 30. The 126-year-old paper left the option open to resuming Monday publication.

He said the decision will help the organization maintain a commitment to save jobs and subscribers' budgets.

"We have made a broad range of cuts across the company that has affected every facet of our operations," the statement said. "Although we are suspending the Monday edition, we're committed to improving our Sunday and Tuesday papers and the quality of our product across the board."
