By: Joe Strupp The company that owns The Capital of Annapolis and three other smaller papers is cutting 111 full- and part-time jobs ?in response to declining advertising revenue and a weak economy,? the Washington Business Journal reported Wednesday.
Capital Gazette Communications will transfer all printing operations from Annapolis to Comprint Printing in Laurel, Md., on March 2, the report said. The consolidation will eliminate 31 full-time and 51 part-time press and mailroom positions.
In addition, the company is laying off 29 others across all departments, but claims no change in news coverage is expected.
?The Capital Gazette family lost some very good employees today in what is a regrettable but necessary business decision to strengthen the company,? Publisher Tom Marquardt said in a statement. ?It was a very difficult day for all of us.?
Capital Gazette also prints the Bowie Blade-News, Crofton News-Crier and the West County Gazette.
