'Maui News,' Unions Extend Contract

Posted
By: E&P Staff Three unions at The Maui News, Wailuku, Hawaii, voted Tuesday to ratify a three-year contract extension that gives them 2.5% pay increases in each year and retains existing benefits.

The agreement also gives the company scheduling flexibility to expand its printing operations. Besides the News, Maui Publishing Co. Ltd. prints smaller newspapers and periodicals.

The News reported that the vote resulted from negotiations that began in March between Maui News Publisher and General Manager Joe Bradley and a committee led by Wayne Cahill, administrator of Hawaii Newspaper Guild TNG/CWA Local 39117.

Also representing News workers are locals of the Honolulu Typographical Union and Graphics Communications International Union.
