McKibben Named Publisher at 'Gazette' of Colorado Springs, Colo.

By: P. Scott McKibben, who stepped down last year as publisher of The Examiner in San Francisco, was appointed Friday as publisher of The Gazette newspaper in Colorado Springs.

McKibben, 53, will take over Dec. 10, succeeding Bob Burdick who retired in August after less than two years as The Gazette's publisher.

McKibben, has been in the newspaper business for more than 30 years working first as an advertising salesman and later in management at newspapers in Kansas, Texas and California.

McKibben was hired as the Examiner's publisher in 2003 and guided it through an ownership change when it was purchased by Denver billionaire Phil Anschutz. After resigning from The Examiner, McKibben became president of Denver-based Western Colorprint Inc., a newspaper sales and marketing company.

The Gazette is owned by Irvine, Calif.-based Freedom Communications, which owns 28 daily newspapers, 37 weekly publications and eight television stations.

McKibben's brother, Ryan McKibben, is president of Denver-based Clarity Media Group, which is owned by Anschutz.
