M.E. of Albuquerque Paper Leaving for Gov't Job

By: The managing editor of The Albuquerque Tribune is leaving the newspaper to become deputy chief of staff and communications director for Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish.

Kate Nelson has worked 18 years at the Tribune, including as a columnist and political reporter. She also has hosted a weekly show on KNME-TV.

She says she loves New Mexico politics and has always wanted to experience it from the other side.

Denish is raising money for an expected bid for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2010.

Nelson, a University of Kansas graduate, is in the Scripps Howard Hall of Fame for deadline, editorial and column writing. The Tribune is owned by the E.W. Scripps Company.
