By: E&P Staff Richmond, Va.-based Media General Inc. is buying the assets of three central Virginia weeklies published by Richmond Suburban Newspapers, it was announced Wednesday.
Media General agreed to buy the Mechanicsville Local, with controlled circulation of 25,000, and the two editions of the Central Virginia Gazette, a weekly edition in Goochland with 10,000-copy controlled circulation and a twice-monthly edition in Louisa with controlled circulation of 12,500.
No terms of the deal were disclosed. Santa Fe, N.M.-based Dirks, Van Essen & Murray represented Richmond Suburban Newspapers, a subsidiary of Better Built Media, in the transaction.
Media General publishes 25 dailies and more than 100 weeklies and niche publications, in addition to owning 26 network-affiliated television stations.
