Media General November Sales Decline

Posted
By: Media General Inc., a newspaper publisher and television station operator, said Tuesday November revenue fell more than 12 percent from last year due to fewer political advertisements and classifieds.

Sales for the month totaled $80.3 million, down $11.5 million from the same period last year.

Publishing revenue dropped 8.9 percent as a result of weaker classified advertising, particularly in the Tampa market.

Broadcast revenue fell 19 percent to $33.3 million compared with last year due to the lack of political advertising during the non-election year.

Sales declines in publishing and broadcast were offset slightly by higher revenues from online advertising, which rose 34.8 percent to $3 million due to stronger results in the company's "advergaming" business.

Shares of Media General Inc., which operates newspapers including the Richmond Times-Dispatch and 23 network-affiliated television stations, rose 4 cents to $20.95 in midday trading.
