By: Media General Inc. said Thursday revenue climbed 3.4 percent in June, on the acquisition of four NBC television stations.
Sales for the month totaled $72.5 million compared with $70.1 million in the previous year. Excluding the stations, revenue fell 7.5 percent.
Publishing unit sales dropped 10.1 percent to $40.5 million from $45.1 million.
Newspaper ad sales slipped 11.7 percent on lower spending in all ad categories, as classified advertising at The Tampa Tribune slid 37.7 percent.
Revenue for the broadcast division increased 24.8 percent to $29.2 million from $23.4 million. Excluding the new stations, sales declined 7.8 percent.
Political revenue was $340,000, down from $2.2 million in the prior-year period.
The company's interactive media unit posted a 58.9 percent increase in June revenue, which included the new NBC station Web sites and higher sales from its Blockdot advergaming business.
Media General publications include The Tampa Tribune, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Winston-Salem Journal and other publications. Its broadcast segment operates network-affiliated TV stations.
