Media General announced this week it will buy a group of weekly newspapers in southwestern

Virginia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Community Newspapers of Southwest Virginia Inc., include the Southwest Virginia Enterprise,

the Bland Messenger, the Smyth County News & Messenger, and the Floyd Press. Combined

circulation is approximately 17,500.

'Each of the four publications has good high levels of household penetration in its respective

market and the Wytheville and Marion papers distribute weekly shoppers to all non-subscribers to

reach 100% of their respective households,' H. Graham Woodlief, president of Media General's

publishing division, said in a statement.
