MediaNews Buys Vacaville, Calif., 'Reporter'

By: The Reporter of Vacaville, Calif., will be sold to MediaNews Group of Denver, according to a story on the newspaper's Web site, http://www.thereporter.com/.

Transfer of the family-owned daily could be completed as early as Oct. 1. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Reporter's circulation is 17,820 weekdays and 19,201 Sundays, according to the 2002 E&P International Year Book.

MediaNews owns several nearby newspapers.

MediaNews CEO William Dean Singleton met with Reporter employees Wednesday. "I hope all of you will all stay and be part of the paper," he said in the Reporter story. "There are no changes planned."

The paper has been owned since the 1940s by the Rico family. Longtime Editor and Publisher Richard Rico announced the decision to sell the paper.
