MediaNews Group, Hearst and Freedom Retain Bain Consulting

By: E&P Staff MediaNews Group CEO William Dean Singleton, in a speech to attendees at the World Newspaper Congress in Sweden, noted that MediaNews Group, Hearst Newspapers, and Freedom Communications have retained Bain Consulting to help "recreate the cost structures of our companies."

Singleton also said many major metros are losing money, a trend that will continue.

"The printed space allocated to news and newsroom staffing levels will continue to decline, so it's time to get over it and move to a print model that matches the reality of a changing business," Singleton said in his remarks.
