By: Joe Strupp Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and Strong Investments honored business writers last week with their annual Financial Writers and Editors Awards that included a $2,500 cash prize for each.
Among the winners in the Midwestern Awards category was
The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, which won for best overall coverage for the investor. Also honored was
Detroit Free Press columnist Susan Tompor for best financial columnist, Janet Kidd Stewart of the
Chicago Tribune for best investor issue coverage, and
Dayton Business Journal writer Don Baker for best profile of a publicly traded Midwestern company.
In the national category,
Money's Jason Zweig took best financial columnist, while
BusinessWeek's David Henry and Christopher H. Schmitt won for best issue coverage, and John Waggoner, Matt Krantz, Edward Iwata, Adam Shell, and Noelle Knox of
USA Today took the spot news award.
