By: E&P Staff Tribune Media Services (TMS) is distributing a list compiled by Variety of the top-100 entertainment icons of the past century.
The Beatles came in first, followed (in alphabetical order) by Louis Armstrong, Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando, Charlie Chaplin, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Mickey Mouse, and Elvis Presley.
Variety prepared the list for use in its 100th-anniversary issue, which goes on newsstands this Monday. Newspapers can run the list starting this Tuesday.
TMS began syndicating the Variety Entertainment News Service on Oct. 1 (E&P Online, Aug. 29).
