By: E&P Staff At his first primetime press conference in months, President Bush on Thursday night will likely face new questions about recent setbacks in the conflict in Iraq, motorists' concerns about high gas prices, and his stalled plan for Social Security reform.
It will be his sixth news conference since his November re-election. White House advisers have said he may hold the sessions on a monthly basis, far more frequently than in his first term.
The news conference is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EDT in the East Room. The White House has asked television networks to broadcast the prime-time session.
Insurgent attacks are increasing again in Iraq, as the new government there squabbles. But White House press secretary Scott McClellan said the president's opening remarks will focus on Social Security, when he will "talk in more specific ways" about his ideas. Bush will also say that he will push Congress to pass his energy plan.
But he is also sure to face questions about the ethics trevails of Rep. Tom DeLay and the growing doubts about the John Bolton nomination.
