MEI Announces New K4 Customers

By: Meg Campbell Parade Magazine, 60 Advanstar titles and Congressional Quarterly are among the publishing companies that have installed the K4 publishing system, developed by SoftCare of Hamburg, Germany and distributed exclusively by Managing Editor Inc. (MEI) in the U.S.

The weekly newspaper supplement Parade, circulation 32 million, is owned by Advance Magazine Group, which uses K4 for its other magazine properties, including Cond? Nast Publications, Fairchild Publications and the Golf Digest companies. Parade is among the first Advance titles to install K4 Version 5.8 and Adobe Creative Suite 3. Advance intends to upgrade its other titles to CS3 and K4 5.8 by March 2008.

Congressional Quarterly is using K4 to manage the print and online production of its CQ Weekly magazine, as well as its legislative news daily, CQ Today. Writers submit content to editors via InCopy connections from remote locations. K4 also feeds CQ?s Unified Data Repository (UDR), a massive database that contains all of the publisher?s content stored in XML and the central repository through which all CQ electronic publications are produced.

Advanstar Communications Inc. purchased K4 for 60 trade print and electronic titles in New Jersey, New York, California, Kansas, Illinois and Ohio. MEI is also doing custom development so that users at the Advanstar publications can format articles for XML conversion that is compatible with its content management system.

MEI has also sold K4 systems to several college dailies, including the University of Virginia?s The Cavalier Daily, with a print circulation of 10,000, and Northwestern University?s Daily Northwestern, with a circulation of 7,000,
