By: Staff Reports Review Reveals Several Publications Copied
A San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News intern, who was
suspended last week for plagiarizing a Washington Post
article, has been fired, the Mercury News reports.
The newspaper fired David Cragin, an intern working in the San
Francisco bureau, when it found more evidence of copied work
submitted as original work.
A San Francisco Chronicle reporter first noticed
similarities between a Post story and Cragin's story in
the Mercury News while researching an article. Cragin's
article that ran on Dec. 26 resembled a Nov. 27 Post
article written by staff writer Frank Ahrens on San Francisco
families living in cramped hotel rooms.
A Mercury News review revealed that Cragin plagiarized
several other publications, including the Chronicle.
