By: E&P Staff Miami Herald reporter Carol Rosenberg has been cleared by the paper after it conducted an internal investigation into allegations that she sexually harassed U.S. Navy Commander Jeffrey D. Gordon.
According to Howard Kurtz of The Washington Post, the Herald announced Monday that their investigation "did not find corroboration" with the allegations of Gordon, the Navy's spokesman at Guantanamo Bay.
However, Kurtz reported, the letter addressed from Herald Vice President for Human Resources Elise Vanaver did not dispute Rosenberg's alleged comments, saying "We do acknowledge, as does Ms. Rosenberg, that there were contentious exchanges and unnecessary profanity on her part. As she continues this assignment, she will place an emphasis on professionalism."
Gordon sent a letter to the paper on July 22 to Herald Executive Editor Anders Gyllenhaal, claiming that Rosenberg made "abusive and degrading comments of an explicitly sexual nature," including implications that Gordon was gay. In addition, according to the letter, Rosenberg frequently referred to Pentagon and Justice Department officials, and other journalists variously as "bitches," "stupid," "lazy," "incompetent," "Nazis" and "Saddam Hussein-like."
"[W]e could not help but conclude that this is a relationship between two people that has gotten off track," Gyllenhaal told the Herald.
