'Miami Herald' Investigates Plagiarism

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Miami Herald issued an editor?s note today saying that several paragraphs from a Feb. 6 story about the Broward Sheriff?s Office were plagiarized from an article in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. In the online correction notice, the Miami Herald stated the situation is under internal review.

The article by Wanda J. DeMarzo was published in the Broward edition and covered a ceremony honoring police officers and civilians who were killed or injured in the line of duty. The Sun-Sentinel article covering the event was published online the day before.

According to the Miami Herald, details and quotations were lifted from the Sun-Sentinel story without proper attribution, including comments from civilian honoree John Clark, who sustained injuries while protecting a woman and her greyhound from two pitbulls.

The plagiarized portions of the Miami Herald article have since been removed from the online edition.
