By: E&P Staff Edward Schumacher-Matos, The Miami Herald's ombudsman, has been named Robert F. Kennedy Visiting Professor for Latin American Studies at the Harvard University David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies.
Schumacher-Matos was the founding editor and associate publisher of The Wall Street Journal Americas. Four years ago he founded the Rumbo chain of Spanish-language newspapers in four Texas markets.
A native of Colombia, Schumacher-Matos, will teach a graduate seminar on Hispanics and illegal immigration as the RFK visiting professor. He is also writing a book on the subject.
The Robert F. Kennedy Visiting Professorship was created in 1986 through a endowment gift from Edmond Safra and the Republic of New York Corporation. Among its past recipients are the novelists Carlos Fuentes and Mario Vargas Llosa.
