By: E&P Staff The McClatchy Co.'s Miami Herald and Tribune Co.'s South Florida Sun-Sentinel are taking over each other's delivery routes in their respective markets, the Herald reported Monday.
In what is becoming a common industry practice, the competitors are cooperating on circulation.
According to the Herald, next month the Miami paper will begin delivering the Sun-Sentinel and the other papers the Fort Lauderdale-based newspaper distributes in Miami and Dade Counties. The Sun-Sentinel now delivers The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Daily News, New York Post, Financial Times, Daily Business Review, Investors Business Daily, and Barron's, the Herald reported in a non-bylined article.
For its part, the Sun-Sentinel will deliver the Herald, its Spanish-language counterpart El Nuevo Herald, and Gannett Co.'s USA Today in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Miami Herald President and Publisher David Landsberg said the arrangement will save the paper "a significant amount of money" the Herald reported.
"I want to emphasize that we are both still competitive newspapers in every sense of the word," he told the paper. "We are still competing for content, readers and newspaper sales."
