By: E&P Staff Randy Michaels has been named chief operating officer of the Tribune Co., effective immediately. In his new role, Michaels is responsible for the company's publishing, broadcast, and Interactive divisions.
"Randy is one of the most creative human beings I've ever known," Sam Zell, Tribune's chairman and CEO, said in a statement. "But he is exactly what Tribune needs to keep moving forward - smart, decisive, relentless, irreverent, fun, and cutting edge."
Michaels has served as the executive vice president and CEO of Tribune's Interactive and broadcast divisions since December 2007.
"The advertising environment is tough, the real estate crisis is affecting our classifieds something awful, and people are saying 'newspapers are dead,'" Michaels said in a statement. "So, naturally, I want to take on even more responsibility for our print business."
