The National Press Photographers Association’s highest and most prestigious honor, the Joseph A. Sprague Memorial Award, will be awarded to the late Michel du Cille of The Washington Post.
The announcement was made by NPPA News Photographer magazine editor Donald R. Winslow during a memorial service that was held for the Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist on Friday at the Newseum in Washington, DC.
Du Cille, 58, collapsed and died December 11, 2014, in rural Bong County, Liberia, while on assignment to cover the Ebola epidemic in western Africa. It was his third rotation into Liberia since last September to cover the spread of the deadly virus.
