By: Jennifer Saba Editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich has created two new industry-related cartoons on behalf of the Newspaper Project. In addition, the project is releasing this week a round of new ads. The cartoons and the ads can be downloaded for publication at the
Newspaper Project.
Luckovich, who works for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and is represented by Creators Syndicate, inked the editorial cartoons to help bolster newspapers. In one, he strikes down the myth that newspapers are dead and in the other, he emphasizes that newspapers bring light to several important issues. (Go

The new ads emphasize that newspapers were "America's first portable information device" and have been "defending freedom daily since 1776."
The Newspaper Project was started by Parade's Randy Siegel, Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., Donna Barrett, Philadelphia Newspapers' Brian Tierney and Jay Smith, the former head of Cox Newspapers.
The group, which formed to promote newspapers, officially launched by releasing an ad at the beginning of February explaining that more people read newspapers than watch the Super Bowl. More than 400 newspapers carried the ad.
