Miles 33 Adopts Pay-for-use Software Licensing

Posted
By: E&P Staff Miles 33 in Bracknell, England, is making its publishing system products available with annual software license fees that are due after the software is in production use, offering what the company calls "a quicker ROI model."

In contrast to customary licensing that requires large, upfront fees be paid before a system is installed, "this dramatically reduces the costs of investing in new technology," Miles 33 CEO Michael Moore said in a statement. "The model virtually eliminates the risk of purchasing systems, as no license fee is charged until you go live."

The annual fee includes software maintenance and upgrades. The model is flexible - if a site's business fluctuates, the annual licence is adjusted accordingly.

Miles 33's FutureProof products cover advertising and editorial managemen. The ad side includes ad sales, credit management, accounts receivable, Internet self-serve, production tracking, ad planning and pagination. The editorial side offers document and content management, pagination, media-neutral content authoring and workflow management. The workflow editorial module uses open-source technologies, such as the Alfresco document-management system.
