Mississippi Daily Switches to Mornings

Posted
By: (AP) The Meridian Star, a 107-year-old daily newspaper serving east Mississippi and west Alabama, will convert to an all-morning publication beginning Monday.

The newspaper has been distributed in the afternoons Monday through Thursday and in the mornings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Publisher Paul Barrett said the change has been eyed for some time, but press availability to print on a morning cycle only recently became possible.

"I've wanted to convert The Meridian Star to seven-day-a-week morning delivery from the day I first arrived," Barrett said in a column published today. "Every indicator said it was a no-brainer."

Advertisers love it, Barrett said. Early-morning ads stay on the street all day. Same-day sale ads become another strategy businesses can use to attract customers.
