By: E&P Staff S. Gale Denley -- retired publisher of The Calhoun County Journal in Bruce, Miss. -- died today of complications from kidney disease. He was 72.
Denley was also a professor emeritus of journalism at the University of Mississippi (where he taught from 1963 to 1996) and a columnist.
The third-generation Mississippi newspaper publisher wrote a nationally syndicated column on small business and advertising. Later, Denley also wrote a statewide-syndicated column that covered politics and other general-interest topics, according to a Calhoun County Journal obituary.
In 2003, the University of Mississippi named the newly renovated S. Gale Denley Student Media Center in honor of the former UM professor.
The former president of the Mississippi Press Association was inducted into the MPA hall of fame in 2000.
