By: E&P Staff New York-based content clearinghouse Mochila has embraced the open-standards RSS Atom application programming interface in order to allow publishers to automatically connect their content-management systems to Mochila's content repository. With this connection, users can customize real- time feeds using keyword, category, byline, source and many other parameters.
Until now, publishers have acquired Mochila's content by selecting widget applications, including article, photo and video players, explains Keith McAllister, CEO of Mochila. With the open-standards support, they can "vacuum up" content directly from Mochila's repository into their own content management systems, giving them more flexibility in the way that content is used on their sites.
Farlex of Huntingdon, Penn., the owner of TheFreeLibrary.com and TheFreeDictionary.com, is the first user to integrate use the open-standards support to enhance the content experience for its users.
Mochila's syndicated content platform includes some 3,000 members, including major news, photo and video wire services, as well as daily newspapers and online publications. Members can make their content available for distribution and acquire other members' content for publication on their own sites, using Mochila's rights-management technology and ad-support solutions to control distribution and generate revenues, McAllister explains.
