By: E&P Staff With E&P Online Editor Jay Defoore out today we will struggle to present as many letters as we can in this space, without his usual linkages and commentary. Bob Woodward, beware! Surely everyone will be watching Larry King tonight.

Re: Knight Ridder alumni write letter of protest--

I'm writing this letter on the sad and bitter afternoon when 75 of my colleagues at the Philadelphia Inquirer walked out of the newsroom forever. It is an emotionally draining moment and yet another blow for those of us who are trying to maintain a belief in the power of quality journalism in this era of naked corporate greed.

That's why it was a joy to read that an impressive group of former Knight Riddger journalists have banned together to call for a return to excellence in journalism and that they even have a plan to nominate candidates for the company's board of directors. The signers of the letters include many of the nation's top reporters and editors - - and some of my former colleagues. It's nice to know that, if nothing else, Wall Street will hear a collective cry of protest from their ranks.

And on a personal note, it's comforting to know that they still hold a place like the Philadelphia Inquirer in their hearts.

Although I've read all of Bob Woodward's books...it won't happen again. It is sad that he has gone from outing a crook like Nixon, to silencing the truth about an administration hell bent on outing a noc. There really is no apology, that is acceptable, to those who trusted him. He really should resign.

Mr. Woodward has no credibility with the American Public anymore. When he appeared before Larry King and denouced the Special Prosecutor and not giving his relationship with the issues presents a real problem with viewers. Its very much like the Judith Miller case with the New York Times. The issue here is credibility and Mr Woodward has none.

When a reporter has no credibility he is a negative to the Washington Post.

Re: Houston Chronicle finding innocent man likely executed--

Where does this leave George Bush, former governor Texas? Is this another case of "people" misinforming him. Although, he did say, more than once, that he was sure everyone executed in Texas was guilty.
